Deepanjali.

Before Diwali what better name? She’s the little darling who helped me drape the Mekhola-chador. Deepanjali Sarkar, my pretty neighbour. Running from her flat to mine in five minutes flat on demand! After all, I’m the Nonodini Ray-baghini…. ( the tigress sister-in-law) !

It was bought tooooo eagerly and shamelessly after a hundred no-saree self-checks during Durga puja pandal hopping. From the Osom bhobon puja stall in Vashi. Bang on target with Susmita Dey with whom the Mekhola hunt reached Shikaar levels!

And to top it all it’s actuallly Kaushiki Roy’s, whose daughterly duties and acts of such sartorial generosity have reached epic proportions and are shortly to be recommended for the first fashion-charity Nobel . ..

Like the look? White and lightweight Mekhola Chador with red and black traditional motifs worn with chunky silver and a bold black and white long sleeve blouse designed for bailing you out of eventualities like these .. You know, attacks of Sudden hyanglamo ( greed ) to wear what’s not yours.

Cheekily teamed for effect, with Chatai bag gifted by Kaushiki Biswas of the sari boutique …

For an evening of fun post Bijoya… Where hair is to be let down .. Best pujo stuff to be worn and shown off and families cling to the last milliseconds of pujo bonhomie and pujor gondho , usually augmented by fish fry and egg rolls .. But even chicken and mutton will do, as they did yesterday.
