It is still Diwali week. The festivities are on the ebb, but people seem loath to have them end. The weekend coming up also lends a helping hand to stretch the celebrations! A favourite nephew and his adorable family paid us a surprise visit. I decided to don this smart, understated, subtly striped silk saree purchased years ago from Shilpi, Chennai for an evening cuppa with him at the Club.
Sadly, I have never understood what kind of a saree this is. I rue not having educated myself at the time I bought it. It is soft to the touch yet irregularly textured (love that), not very thick, drapes very comfortably and has the subtlest stripes in muted earth tones running all over it. No embellishments, no fuss, just the pure joy of juxtaposition of colour, weave and texture. Resembles a Bhagalpuri or a tussar, but quite sure it isn’t either.
Please enlighten me, somebody!
