Occasion: Day 3 of Navratras, worshipping Ma Chandraghanta. This form of Devi is depicted as wearing a bell-like ornament in the shape of the moon. The moon is connected with the mind and the Ghanta (or the bell) is an instrument connected with alertness. The ringing of the bell brings the mind to the present moment and in our control with increased alertness.
A beautiful mind adds beauty to one’s nature.May she bless us with her powers.
We did our Puja pretty late again around 10:30 pm as we had to go in late evening for a play Ek Mulaqaat at Epicentre,Gurgaon as soon as my husband returned from his work.
This silk saree was a gift by my sister-in-law (Bhabhi) on the occasion of my son’s 1st b’day in 2009. One of my favorite Sarees. I’m wearing this saree today after almost 7 years and the silk form was not very heavy and so an easy drape. Luckily, no alternation was required in the blouse for the 1st time, after I started wearing sarees from the ‘old is gold’ lot 🙂
To celebrate the occasion, I prepared Besan sheera to go with color of the day and using my mom’s age old recipe.
I read on some saree forum that Yellow is the color for day 3. So here is my saree story thinking of the powers of Ma Chandraghanta; an alert mind adds beauty to one’s nature. Only an alert mind could understand the depth of emotions depicted in the play that we watched the same evening, which was based on an unfulfilled love, poetry and music of two eminent poets- Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam acted by Shekhar suman and Deepti Naval.
