Recently, I gave a new lease of life to the last saree I bought myself, maybe around 1999.

I picked it up from the Central Cottage Industries Emporium in Bangalore ~ mainly because the charming sales ladies, who got to be my friends over my years as Chief Sub-editor at Deccan Herald, wouldn’t let me resist it. It took three visits before I succumbed because they insisted on hiding it away from other eyes, just for me.

I’m so glad I invested in this all-time, all-generation classic cotton weave from Sambalpur, where I had visited the looms with my family around 1978.

I love love love this classic Vichitrapuri cotton from Odisha.
