There are those rare days when the heavens above play Santa Claus to all of humanity, a day when no prayer goes unanswered, no wish made in earnest faith goes unfulfilled, no dream, however starry, remains unrealised.
The Varalakshmi is one such happy day. The day when the Goddess is at her benevolent best. The day for us to be the innocent little Aladdins and lovingly curate our treasured wishes, ready for the Goddess to hear. A mother’s prayer for health of her children. A wife’s prayer for prosperity of her husband. A student’s prayer for learning and wisdom. A newly-wed couple’s prayer for children. Prayers for peace. And harmony. And tolerance. It’s the day for us to ask and the Goddess to grant.
I attend Varalakshmi at a friends place and wear a yellow silk with pretty sea – green flowers. A saree immensely special for me, this being the first Puja gift from my father-in-law many autumns back
