‪#‎100sareepact‬ 40 & 41/100
My day started with blessings from parents, sister, uncle H Gururaj Rao & aunt Mari who sang for me, my friend Suma Sahu who painted a beautiful card, flowers and card from husband, a bouquet & a card from my dearest friend Vani Krishnan, one more friend Sunanda Gaikwad calling from Mumbai to wish, whatsapp messages from cousins and friends, phone calls from friends here in Bahrain and ofcourse all your wishes on fb… it was indeed a special day to begin with!
Moving on to the saree story, when I visited Bangalore in January I asked my mother,
“Can you give me one of your old kanjeevarams, as this year for my birthday would like to wear your saree?”
“Why are you asking me, take any saree you like,” she said… this is mother’s love, right?
I took this saree & said, ” I’ll take this” & smiled.
“Keep it with you” & added “Now get an appropriate blouse for this.”
I gave her a hug & she continued, “As I have become old & frail, I cannot wear heavy kanjeevarams often.”
As age catches up & coupled with ill health, I have seen many elderly women in my family prefer to wear light weight Silks to the heavy starched ones.
So, happily draped “Amma’s saree” called her to tell that I was wearing her saree. She was very happy & told me to post her saree picture on fb!
“Ofcourse, I would & it was my 40th saree in the pact,” I told her.
By the way, when I took this saree in January, I did not know about the100sareepact ?
In the evening, I wanted to do something different. Why not check out the new saree store in town, I thought. Good idea! Draped my new block print chanderi cotton with paithani border ( love the lotus flowers on the border) & drove to the saree store. Spent an hour or so checking out all their ‘bling’ designer stuff.
I was about to say, ” Thank you” and walk out when she said, “This is Madurai Dixit saree,” pulling out a chiffon saree with a heavy border. Checking out the saree and thinking for a while said, ” Pack it.” Not because it takes MD’S name but remembered a blouse I had that would go with this saree & the heavy border doesn’t need a fall, so can wear it soon! Clever move na??
Had never treated myself to a saree on my birthday, it would always be a saree bought beforehand & wearing it on the special day!
Came home, changed again, this time slipped into my regular pant & top to dine out at the same restaurant with husband at our favourite mall which you can see is so deLIGHTfully decked for Ramadan.
