This is my second Queen of Hearts saree and also the second in the bird series…..a mul cotton saree with hand block printed owls which is quirky, soft and gossamer light….perfect for summers.
The Owl is considered to be an auspicious bird for Bengalis. Some say, Lakshmi rides the owl ( lakhir bahon in bangla ); others believe the owl simply accompanies the goddess who is associated with wealth, power and royal splendour. Spiritually, it is also said, that by keeping the owl as her vehicle, she teaches us to open our eyes to the light of wisdom residing within us.
The Owl is considered to be a symbol of wisdom, especially in ancient Greece, where it was closely associated with Athena, goddess of wisdom.
Wore this for our monthly ladies club and was pleasantly surprised to find that one of the parts of the programme had a display of sarees of different states by the host ladies followed by a Q & A round involving questions about the sarees and jewellery worn by the participants. Thanks to the #100SareePact I knew the answers to most of the questions and also won a prize. So this new saree has already started creating its own stories.
