#17 is a batik silk that I bought for my first Sankrant festival, as a new bride. As per Maharashtrian tradition, it is a custom to wear black on this day of the harvest festival. New brides host a haldi kumkum on this day, and so did I – my first, and also my last haldi kumkum 🙂
Interestingly, unlike most Indian festivals, makar sankrant is based on a solar event and hence the date stays constant over the years.

I remember going to buy this saree with my mil telling me to ensure it was black; and how difficult was that? But I fell in love with this one and brought it home with the excuse it is black with a bit of white print 🙂 Of course there was a school of thought that this was more like white with some black print, but then color and beauty, both lie in the eye of the beholder don’t they?
