\nWe. .a family of Saree wearers . used to wear cotton sarees daily in summers…and silk sarees in winter..<\/p>\n
We used to put starch (kalaf) in our cotton sarees.. A lady’s skills used to be tested. ..by how well. .the kalaf in her sarees turned out. . Then. .the sarees would either go for ironing or to the charak wallah..<\/p>\n
We would then, wear these sarees. .the whole day. . Do our routine activity… kitchen ka
\nkaam- kaaz..etc .rest a little in the afternoon. …yet the saree would stay intact and look fresh and wouldn’t crumple to look shabby..<\/p>\n
Was sharing this with bahu rani Aditi B. Khandelwal.. that earlier. .we would put kalaf ourselves and at home. . N she goes, ”Mom, what’s kalaf”. I said ”starch”.. She says, ” What’s starch” !!<\/p>\n
Just goes to say.. How little. . Our kids know of those days. .
\nGalti in bacchon ki nahin hai.. Hum logon ne ”cotton sarees” hi pehnna chhodd diya..
\nSaath mein…yeh sab kaam karne bhi chhodd hi diye..
\nSo.. how would they know !!!<\/p>\n
This Kalaf lagi hui Kerala cotton saree… which my husband & I got for my mom in law from Kochi… couple of years back. . She has been unable to wear this saree… as it had too much kalaf and is much too wide for her..<\/p>\n
Loving it… How many memories. . A simple cotton saree can revoke.. O M G.<\/p>\n
