“Life is about the people we meet”, reads a large poster on my office wall. I bought the poster because I firmly believe this to be true.
\nEach and every one of us is moulded and indeed defined by our collective life experiences.
\nI studied in a Parsi school in Bombay. It had a boarding and a day scholar program. The boarding, however, was for Parsis only. Which meant that I grew up with a healthy dose of parsi humor & resilience.
\nThe Gara is a saree reserved for auspicious occasions for Zoroastrians and I’ve seen many women drape it, for weddings especially.
\nSo while on a saree buying expedition ( yes, all saree shopping must have the grand spirit of adventure, surely ), I stumbled upon this simple yet striking silk with a delicate border embroidery of flowers. The Pallu is an intricate embroidery of leaves & flowers – phool patti. A very simple Gara style saree. Had to have it to pay homage to my Parsi past.
\nMy work pushes me to meet many people too. Interviews give me a glimpse into their minds. I have to figure out, very quickly, what makes them tick. A good interview for me is when my interviewee has let his or her guard down and shown my camera, and my audience, a glimpse of their beliefs.
\nThe \u202a#\u200e100sareepact\u202c too has brought so many people into my life. Wonderful men and women who have shared their life experiences candidly and with great charm. So today is a big shout out to everyone that either burst, or lost their way, into my circle of love and friendship. I learn from you everyday.
