Saree #2\/100: yes, I am trudging along ever sooo slowly, but I am really thankful that I the desire to be on this pact stops me from being lazy and putting on something that would take me far less thought. I was really excited to get another opportunity to dig through my meager collection of sarees, this one was for a puja at my girlfriend \/ dance buddy’s house. Ever since I have met her, our friendship has grown via the medium of dance, we both learn and teach a North Indian Dance form called, Kathak. Over the years it has grown beyond our dance, her family has welcome my husband and I with open arms and I feel a great sense of familial camaraderie being included in family occasions, while being so far away from mine. My “dance buddy” as we both call each other, is more than just a buddy. Here’s a joyous picture of her and I happily wearing our drapes. She, despite being born and raised outside of India, is one of those rare people that clings to her roots in a graceful and non-overbearing way. Here she is in her beautiful parrot green Kanjivaram, and me in my yellow red synthetic flowy saree, gifted to me by my father in law. I really enjoyed the ease of draping this sari and bringing out some of my rarely worn baubles to adorn it. I also managed to add a bindi to it, which is almost never do.
