It was on the day of our school farewell for the girls who had just finished writing their matriculation exams ! That was in the year 1965. It was a simple cotton Khatau voile saree. I think those days it cost around twenty or twenty five rupees only ! I still remember it had a white background with pink flowery print on it . I kept it for many many years. After that I wore sarees right thru college ,and many years beyond. Then we moved to Canada . There I coild not wear sarees to work,as they had a dress code. But for all functions and get together all my Indian friends wore sarees. However cold it would get I always wore sarees to church , even though I wore the snow boots ! Never wavered even once and wore pants or skirts ! used to wear tights inside to keep warm ! now I&#8217;m retired and back on home ground in CHENNAI. I&#8217;m back to wearing my beloved sarees whenever I want. This is a picture of my husband and myself with all our pets. This is a printed chiffon saree. I love bright colours ! May your 100 pact movement grow and grow .More power to all saree clad women wherever they may be !<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wore my first Saree when I was fifteen and a half.
