Funny how times change…. Many moons ago, circa 1973 when I lived in Kolkata as a young girl, wearing a saree was the norm rather than an exception!! These is a photograph of 16 year old me with my aunts and our neighbour’s daughter (in a dress) outside my grandmother’s house on Dr. Sarat Banerjee Road, Kolkata, which is right next door to where Meera Basu now has a very exclusive and much sought after saree store! I can still recall that balmy March afternoon, when these pictures where taken by my uncle with his “Agfa” camera. We had all just washed and changed after playing Holi and were waiting for the ice cream vendor to do his rounds so that we could have our holiday treat of “Magnolia’s” strawberry ice lollies!!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
