This Dhakai jamdani saree was a gift from Ma about 30 years ago. It had been languishing in my cupboard since my cousin Sreela’s wedding decades ago.<\/p>\n
This is a classic weave which isn’t available easily these days. It can’t be laundered easily, either, except at a few special outlets in Kolkata, to the best of my knowledge. The saree isn’t a Tangail with a jamdani pattern, but a Dhakai from Dhaka with its traditional loose weave.<\/p>\n
To be honest, I felt happy that I had brought it back to life today. It is pretty, by any yardstick.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
