My first Saree purchase.. after I got into the #100SareePact and #DelhiSareeChallenge.
\nWalked in to the Weavers of India exhibition at the Aga Khan hall . Saw the Magalgiri Saree Stall there. .<\/p>\n
Immediately…Roopali Chanana Nayyar’s pic of herself in a lovely Magalgiri Cotton Saree…which she had posted almost 2 months ago …on the DSC group came to my mind. ..<\/p>\n
Till..then. .Frankly speaking… I hadn’t heard about the Mangalgiri Saree at all. ..<\/p>\n
Didn’t even think twice and. .just bought this lovely Neon Peachish Saree with purplish magenta….very thin stripes with a typical lovely border and pallu.. which I am wearing today. .<\/p>\n
The Mangalgiri Lady stall owner .. really insisted that I buy one more really beautiful Saree ..She kept saying. .”it will look very very nice on you”. .. I bought it and wore it for the LoomLeela event itself…<\/p>\n
Also bought a navy blue cotton check Saree….third one from her. .<\/p>\n
So. Seeing each other’s Saree pics..we are motivated. ..not only to wear our existing sarees… but also… To think of different weaves, styles & varieties …and buy the same. Learn about it & wear it too..<\/p>\n
A bit about the Mangalgiri sarees :-<\/p>\n
Located at a distance of 12 kms from Vijayawada, Mangalgiri in Krishna district, is a famous pilgrimage center in Andhra Pradesh.<\/p>\n
Mangalgiri is popular for its elegant cotton sarees and dress material.<\/p>\n
It comes in plain colours, stripes, checks and with zari and thread borders.
\nIt is similar to the Kota saree which has an airy and fluffy feel to it and makes the saree very light to<\/p>\n
Mangalagiri weavers have started weaving sarees in pure silk as well as in silk cotton.
\nMangalagiris can be worn through the year, are very cool for summers..<\/p>\n
