This Bangladeshi Tangail was a gift from Boromashi (my mother-in-law’s eldest sister) a couple of years after my wedding. A petite lady with boundless energy and stamina even at 90. A skilled seamstress, an accomplished singer and a brave woman who carried the family on her diminutive shoulders for many years. Even today, she is more active than many people half her age. Her strength surprises.
\nSo does this sari. When I got the folded sari, it seemed to me green with a yellow border and I promptly got a green blouse made. But when I unfolded the sari to drape it, I was stumped. The green was only the pallu! The sari was a short colour of green and yellow. And strangely, every time I seem to forget the actual colour of the sari. Today, too, when I took out the sari, for a moment I thought it’s green, before remembering perhaps not. But even then the exact colour of the sari escaped me till I unfolded it and the yellow was unravelled. So, I call this my surprise sari! It manages to surprise me every time. Such is its charm.
\nThe earrings are new. Ma picked them up from Dainty Drops a couple of weeks ago when she went to get something repaired. The neckpiece is from Bibidha, a gift from Antara and Mita Mashi.
\nThe occasion: a weekend visit to my sister-in-law Sarmistha’s parents’ home for some adda over mugs of tea and fish fry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
#100sareepact Day 64.
